HOT live music at Super Thursday!

He did it well, too, pumping out a tight set that turned the massive crowd here into a sea of bouncing heads.

Hip-hop/R&B group Next took the stage after Pokafase. They pretty much walked off the red carpet and onto the stage.

Joey Fatone just walked by me.

Anyway, Next sounded impeccable. Their smooth groove was perfect for slow dancing in this brisk weather. They ended their set with their single "Wifey," and left the stage to DJ Roonie G, who spun a scribble fest filled with fierce beats and samples from everyone from Kanye West to Prince.

The crowd is going nuts behind me. Somebody's screaming for Jennifer Love-Hewitt. Not sure if she's actually here.

We'll be getting Diddy with it shortly. We hope.

Storm disrupts businesses in some areas

Monday's storm caused business disruptions in some of the region's hardest-hit spots, including a flooded business park in Bothell and the wind-battered coast.

At Bothell's North Creek Business Park, which was under a mandatory city evacuation order, the Spring Hill Suites hotel was accessible by only one out-of-the-way access road, said general manager Heather Stowe. "We're actually advising people not to come in, because they may not be able to get out," she said.

Business at the Bothell Home Depot was about half that of a normal Monday, manager Pat Berg said, but customers coming in were on a mission.

"We're selling a lot of emergency generators and pumps and bag of sands," he said. "It's definitely not a normal day."

The storm struck during what is supposed to be one of the busiest weeks of the year for retailers.

Willy Northpole and the Phoenix hip-hop scene explode

The fact is, unlike trials for embezzlement or murder or even rape, CPS dependency hearings, which determine custody and whether parents continue to have the right to raise their children, are closed to the public. The agency's paperwork is also sealed.

And that means the entire system operates without scrutiny from outsiders, be they reporters or advocates. (There's a state ombudsman, but he is legally barred from releasing specifics about cases.) We never get to see the evidence that would determine whether kids are wrongly being taken from their parents, as so many callers insist on my voice mail, or whether CPS is instead erring on the side of leaving kids in unsafe homes.

We can write about the big picture because CPS has to release some statistical information every six months.

Wisconsin Sports Spectacular

It's an incredibly popular place for people to go and watch the game. I've never done it myself, but there are a lot of people that do. Not any more. The NFL has sent out letters to the owners of these operations to stop showing these games because they violate copyright laws. This according to the Journal Sentinel. Brian McCarthy, an NFL spokesman, said in an e-mail that the league recently became aware that the businesses were showing Packers games. "We let them know they are violating copyright law and longstanding NFL policies that prohibit mass out-of-town viewing of NFL games," he said. I think this is just one more way for the NFL in it's money grubbing way to screw the fan out of an awesome viewing experience. This just makes me think even more that some day we will have to pay a per game price to see our favorite team play on TV.
