Death by Car Bomb in Damascus

Her lone misstep was a passage where she tried to tackle the issue of her likeability. She said:

Part of what this campaign is coming down to is a recognition that we need to know, as specifically as possible, what our next president intends to do. We don't need a leap of faith. We don't need to have a beer with the next president. We have that president. Although, you know, I'd be happy to have a beer, too . . .

Uh, sure.

Johns’ retrospective visits the Midwest

This grandiose collection boasts over 100 prints that display the culmination of Johns' talent, innovation and experience in a chronological walk through his artistic career.

A palpable trademark of Johns' style is the repetition of motifs and symbols throughout his works. “Two Flags" and “Flags II" demonstrate his fascination with re-using subjects. Each print contains the American flag portrayed in a different style or color—a subject that Johns used in more then 50 drawings, 30 paintings and 14 prints.

Johns reworked and transformed his subjects and motifs throughout by changing the medium, technique, color or scale to alter the form and meaning. Printmaking is a technique that allows for easy alteration and reworking of a subject matter, a main selling point for Johns when first considering printmaking.

Firefighters Gain Ground As Santa Ana Winds Decrease

Helicopters and air tankers dropped 30 to 35 loads of water on two fires that have burned hundreds of homes in the San Bernardino Mountains, near Lake Arrowhead.

"They're taking it down considerably," said Dennis Bouslaugh of the U.S. Forest Service.

Authorities said they had largely contained many of the fires north of San Diego, and all five fires in Los Angeles County were about 50 percent contained or more.

Despite the progress, none of the six major blazes in San Diego County was more than 15 percent contained, and those fires threatened more than 8,500 houses. The top priority was a fire in San Bernardino County that threatened 6,000 homes and continued to rage out of control.

So far, this week's fires have destroyed about 1,500 homes and burned 674 square miles across five counties, from Ventura in the north all the way into Mexico.

2nd Slaughterhouse Worker Arrested In Recall Case

A second fired worker has been arrested in a case involving alleged abuses at a Chino slaughterhouse that led to the nation's largest beef recall.

Luis Sanchez surrendered to Chino police Wednesday and pleaded not guilty Thursday to three misdemeanors involving the illegal movement of sick or injured cattle.

Prosecutors say he remains in custody in lieu of $15,000 bail and is scheduled for a pretrial hearing next week.

An arrest warrant was issued Friday for Sanchez and his Westland/Hallmark Meat Company co-worker Daniel Ugarte Navarro.

Navarro was taken into custody previously and released on bail. He faces five felony counts of animal abuse in addition to three misdemeanors.
