Belittling allergies and asthma (and the parents who deal with them) seems to be one of the last prejudices that is allowable in our society. The image of the delicate, nerdy child and overprotective mother still saturates the popular culture. Thanks for making my life just that much harder with this irresponsible piece. .
Zone Community Center want to raise about $45,000
Organizers of the Zone Community Center want to raise about $45,000, $10 at a time, to complete construction of a facility at the corner of Ann and Walnut streets in the village of Richfield Springs. The 3,200 square-foot building is framed and sided, but it needs plumbing, heating, air conditioning and interior work. "We've got about 60 percent of the building done, and we'd like to have it completed by late spring,'' Larry Kroon, president of the Richfield Springs Youth Ministry, said Tuesday. The ministry operates the Zone Youth Center, a supervised place for teenagers to gather on Friday and Saturday nights. In 1999, the Zone opened in the basement of the Church of Christ Uniting but soon outgrew the space. It relocated to 140 Main St., a building owned by local businessman Jay Bernhardt.
New and improved FireSky Resort a solid Scottsdale golf trip ...
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Bad hotels don't tend to last in this trendy desert town that only seems to grow in popularity every year. Especially bad high-end hotels with room rates that would make a grandmother from Iowa faint. There is just too much competition for luxury travelers. With the Phoenix-Scottsdale resort corridor seeing a virtual arms race of resort renovations, a hotel with something lacking to begin with holds little chance of survival. It's probably no surprise then that the Caleo Resort & Spa found itself bought out by Kimpton Hotels and renamed and revamped as the FireSky Resort almost two years ago. If you had bad experiences at Caleo, it's time to put those to rest. For a visit to the FireSky Resort offers up a dramatically different vibe.
Yazd: Welcome to the desert
Once an important station on the Silk Road, with its historic mosques, minarets and ancient clay buildings, Yazd has resisted other Iranian cities' rush for modernity. It may possibly be the most beautiful desert city in the world. The word "Yazd" means "worship" -- apt since Yazd is known in the Islamic Republic as "the City of Muslims." Most of its half a million population follow the Islamic faith devoutly. Yet for a city renowned for its religious conservatism, Yazd is far more tolerant and open-minded than cities more accustomed to tourists such as Isfahan and Shiraz. This may be because Yazd is also the birthplace of the Zoroastrian religion. Very little is known about Zoroastrianism in the West but its influence is far reaching.
