Group aims for HVAC ‘yes’

Collecting donations, running ads and gathering new members along the way, Care For Kids continues to mount an organized effort to get the schools $3.35 million bond referendum approved for air conditioning and other improvements.

Meeting Wednesday, group members expressed concern not only for lack of A/C, but reports from teachers that the heating system at Hoover Elementary leaves some rooms still cold while teachers in others prop open windows to cool off.

We need to focus on the heat part of it, member Jeni Schiele said.

The group is organizing a petition drive to get a satellite voting booth set up at the March 7 elementary school carnival in hopes of pulling in more voters.

The group plans to meet with an architect Feb.

Afghanistan:Manley Report

First of all I would like to say I have lost two family members in Afghanistan, and that if I was able to re-join Princess Pat. over there I would, only because I feel obligated to help my fellow soldiers.

That said, this mission is one that would go on forever. It doesn't really matter how much stability is brought to the region, as soon as western countries leave, it will again become ruled by Islamist warlords.

There is a lot of money to be made in the poppy fields and as long as that remains true, the warlords will return. Now the reasons we went in there in the first place I am sure time will show were false as well.

You cannot claim we are there to protect womens rights etc. because if thats what we are doing there we have a few hundred more countries to occupy over there.

Schoolfields Were Quakers, Fiery Attorneys

The early Schoolfields were Quakers, but some of the Chattanooga Schoolfields were fiery attorneys. One of the most colorful of all was Raulston Schoolfield.

The Schoolfields had estates near the River Roch near Manchester, England. Ellis Schoolfield was a farmer in Lancashire County, who married Alice Rawsthorn in 1666. Their son, John (1667), made his way to Pennsylvania. He had a son, John, who was born around 1700. In 1724, this John Schoolfield married Ann Lenoir, whose parents, Isaac and Ann Lenoir, were French Hugenots who had been banished from Arcadia. The marriage was in Bucks County, Pa. John and Ann Schoolfield had nine children.

One of these was David Schoolfield, who was born in 1736 - the same year the Schoolfield home burned. They were living at the time at Lakasha Village.
