| Residents of sinking community seeking answers
Diana Regazzi's home is sloping. Clyde Preston's is sinking. The floor in Pat and Bob Talaga's house is buckled. Now told that their one- and two-year-old homes were built on unstable ground, the three and almost 30 of their neighbors in an Apache Junction manufactured home community are appealing to city and state officials for help. .
1824 'shack' matures
In southern Anne Arundel County, Route 2 meanders toward Solomons Island, winding through miles of farmland and a smattering of houses.
In 1967, Georgina and Richard Fries were looking for an alternative to the Baltimore-Washington suburbs after a job transfer brought the family south from New Jersey.
"We bought a shack and 2 acres for $29,000," said Richard Fries.

It might seem an easy choice. Buy the well-maintained house with seven relatively small rooms, a one-car garage, a cramped yard, red cedar siding that looks pretty good after 50 years and nearly 1,600 square feet of living space. Or the buy the brand-new home with eight soaring, high-ceilinged rooms, a view of a golf course, a two-car garage, central air conditioning, closets the size of small rooms and 2,260 square feet of living space. Of course, the prices vary. The first house — despite its smaller size and age — actually costs more than the second. It's on the market now for nearly $560,000. The second house, which includes a gleaming, modern kitchen, might seem like an incredible bargain at $525,000. So what gives? The new house is part of the Strongwater Crossing development in Salem.
Sidhu sees red over mercy demand for Afzal
Mr Navjot Singh Sidhu, BJP MP from Amritsar, strongly criticised the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mr Gulam Nabi Azad, for demanding clemency for Mohammed Afzal Guru, a Pakistan-trained terrorist to be hanged on October 20. Mr Sidhu lambasted Congress leaders and said they had never appealed to the British rulers for granting mercy to Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh. Now a Congress Chief Minister was seeking clemency for the convict who had attacked the highest institution (Parliament) of the country.
