| Hillary's school for scandal
The disclosure that the documents had surfaced came less than a week after the statute of limitations expired for civil lawsuits against professionals who had fraudulently advised corrupt S&Ls. - The discovery of the Rose Law Firm records came the same week as a disclosure of a 2-year-old memo written by a presidential aide relating to the so-called Travelgate scandal. The memo suggested that Hillary Clinton had played a much more extensive role than the administration had claimed in the firing of employees of the White House travel office. The ostensible reason: to give travel business to associates of the Clintons. - In June 1996, the Republican majority and Democratic minority of the special Senate Whitewater Committee reached entirely different conclusions about Hillary Clinton's behavior.
Voters pass school expansion referendums in Unit 5
UPDATED 11:15 p.m. NORMAL -- Voters gave Normal-based Unit 5 school district a solid go-ahead to build new schools and renovate existing schools, but only barely approved a tax increase to cover extra operating expenses. The mood of about 30 supporters of Unit 5's referendum stayed optimistic Tuesday night as they watched results come in at Sugar Creek Elementary School. In a gym decorated with balloons in the district's colors of orange and black, the activists watched results on a big projection screen or huddled around a computer. The referendum to issue $96.7 million in building bonds passed 11,796 to 8,351, and the proposal to raise property taxes by 10 cents per $100 equalized assessed valuation passed 10,402 to 9,888.“We're very glad and happy with the outcome. It reflects the community's value of a strong education system," said Carl Tiechman, co-chairman of the Citizens for Unit 5, from the poll-watching party.
Cities learning the value of conserving tree canopy
Well before the 2004 hurricanes claimed a single tree, Central Florida cities and counties watched their thick canopies of mature oak, cypress and other trees shrink to accommodate new subdivisions and office parks. The three storms ripped out 30 percent more of the region's tree cover in some places, providing the impetus and millions of dollars in federal assistance for local governments to plant trees and better manage what's left. During the past two years, arborists armed with hand-held computers have been trekking through Orlando, Lakeland, Leesburg and other cities, cataloging every tree on public property. .
Commissioners approve renovations to Larimer County Justice Center
The county commissioners on Tuesday approved a proposal to renovate the Larimer County Justice Center in downtown Fort Collins to create courtroom and office space for three new judges. Renovation plans include adding more heating and air conditioning units to the building at 201 LaPorte Ave. The renovation is expected to cost up to $2.5 million. Money for the project will come from a 0.2 percent sales tax that county voters approved in 1997 to build a new courthouse. County officials hope to have the work completed by July, when the new judges are expected to come on board. .
Lohan Loses Her Leggings — Maybe For Some Scrubs
Finally! A leggingless Lohan. LL returned to the red carpet last week in a hot LBD but this is the first time in a while we have seen her casually dressed without those hideous leggings or tights she has been living in. It's too bad that the one time she ventures away from the security of having her legs covered that she doesn't have any friends to tell her that her ass is hanging out. So sad and yet so typical. Lindsay spent the weekend shopping, lunching and meeting with friends. Her fun routine is about to be interrupted with a trip to the morgue and watching what goes down in an ER as part of her requirements set in her DUI plea agreement. Maybe she was out looking for the appropriate outfit for the occasion. Lots more of Lindsay out and about in LA showing off her legs among other things so read more.
