Three vehicles including an NStar truck collided on Route 28 in Hyannis late Friday night.HYANNIS - Despite the scene in these pictures no one was seriously injured in this crash in Hyannis. Police say the Chevy pickup (above right) driven by Manoel Ramos rear ended the Ford Contour (above right) driven by Arthur Lomba about 10:30 PM on Route 28 by Hiramar Road. The impact caused the Contour to collide with an NStar truck driven by Sean Knight which rolled on its side (right). Ramos reportedly failed a sobriety test at the scene and was arrested by Barnstable Police for operating under the influence of alcohol. Traffic on Route 28 between the Airport Rotary and Bearses Way was detoured for two hours while the crash was investigated and the wreckage was cleared. Story and photos by Frank Paparo.
Have faith that things may turn out better than you think
Her heavy breathing added a sad background to the sorrowful scene. I prayed for her, but with little faith. Everything seemed to be so settled and final. One week later, however, she came out of the coma and was soon back at her farm home busy about her housework. Visitors there found her as positive and thankful for daily blessings as before her illness. God had granted her more years to serve Him and she was not surprised. Her additional time to live provided this woman of prayer many more opportunities to speak to others about her Lord and His love."I have but one year to live," said a tearful woman who had just received a terminal diagnosis from her doctor."I may not have that long," I replied, stressing the uncertainty of life's duration for all.In caring for the details related to her expected upcoming death, this troubled woman decided to fly to Rhode Island to spend some time with her brother while she had time to do so.
Few Businesses, Non-Profits Help Ex-Offenders Work
Pamela Ainsworth had work experience, education and bond insurance when she went job hunting earlier this year. She had been a bartender and waitress before she was sentenced to prison on drug and auto-theft convictions. In a federal prison in Texas, she had a top-paying job, earning $1.15 an hour plus bonuses as a call-center rep for Xcel Energy. While incarcerated for 3 1/2 years, she also learned data entry and accounting. For three months, 33-year-old Ainsworth worked diligently to find employment. She applied at local restaurants, grocery stores, mega-retailers and telemarketers. Even though she was bonded to protect an employer if there is theft, forgery, larceny or embezzlement, Ainsworth wasn't hearing the answer she needed. "It's hard. It's humiliating.
Tories demand Salmond quit as MP
However, the First Minister later announced he would be donating the one-third of his Holyrood salary to which he is entitled as a so-called "dual mandate" politician to a special trust fund to help community projects in the north-east of Scotland. It means that when his First Minister's salary of £76,907 a year is added to his £60,277 Westminster wage, Mr Salmond's total annual income is £137,184. A spokesman for Mr Salmond yesterday accused the Tories of "scraping the bottom of the barrel" and ignoring the Scottish national interest. "There is a clear advantage to Scotland in having a First Minister who can make key interventions at Westminster on Scotland's behalf," the spokesman said. "For example, on the UK Government's legislative programme or, for that matter, his exchanges with the Prime Minister on co-operating against terrorism." He added: "There is much more to being an MP than trooping the lobbies at Westminster, as is shown in the latest available league table for MPs' participation.
